Individual Support
- With therapist, dietitian, psychiatrist and doctor's appointments the actual eating the food part often goes missed.
- We empower clients to become natural and fearless eaters-- to eat what they want, when they want it and to listen to their bodies. In doing so, they learn to make peace and create a new and positive relationship with food.
- Trained support will come to the home, school, and office to provide meal support to help clients adhere to their specified plans. By eating a meal alongside the client, they bring a sense of curiosity and compassion to the food experience. Their intention is to help maintain accountability without becoming the food police.
- Meal companions are thoroughly trained to deal with clients struggling with disordered eating and eating disorders including: anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and compulsive overeating. Our meal companions also work with bariatric surgery patients, diabetic patients and anyone needing extra support with food.
- A meal companion is available to do supermarket or restaurant outings. Upon request, they are also available for 24-hour care.
- Meal companions will regularly be in contact with members of the outside treatment team to make sure that everyone is on the same page. Because meal companions have the opportunity to be with clients in their everyday environment, they’re able to get relevant information that otherwise might not be obtained. Meal companions are adjunctive to the treatment and do not provide psychotherapy. A meal companion helps put into practice what is discussed in sessions. It’s one thing to talk about eating and quite another to actually do it.
